Big Plans Dance into Westport with Seven New Late-Night Hotspots
Openings increase the capacity by 3,500+ patrons and 250 new jobs
Westport’s nightlife scene is about to get more vibrant, thanks to an ambitious expansion that will add seven new late-night hotspots along Westport Road and the horseshoe parking lot off Pennsylvania, formerly occupied by Californos and other businesses. The expansion, led by Westport Bars KC Group, promises to boost the district’s capacity by over 3,500 patrons and create 250 new jobs.
Westport Bars KC Group, a coalition of local operators, aims to elevate Kansas City’s social landscape by building on the popularity of the historic and dynamic Westport District. The new venues will be interconnected, allowing patrons to explore multiple late-night hotspots after the initial check-in, thereby offering variety and convenience.
The grand opening kicks off on July 19 with two bars, followed by an August opening and all venues set to debut within the next twelve months. Additionally, Q Kansas City, a new venue dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community, will open in October at 504 Westport Road. This venture, in partnership with Lance Pierce, builds on eight successful years of hosting of Queer Bar Takeovers.
These new hotspots are designed to offer diverse late-night entertainment options, ensuring there is something for everyone. The interconnected lineup includes:
1. Westport Bar and Rec, 4120 Pennsylvania Avenue: A game bar featuring 50+ games and 100+ beers, opened in August 2023.
2. Westport Landing, 4115 Mill Street: Opening July 19, offering KC’s best DJs and dancing, charming, upscale interior and cocktails. Capacity: 450.
3. The Patio, 4125 Mill Street: Opening July 19, to feature patio seating with firepits, DJs, and live music. Capacity: 500+.
4. Jungalow, 4117 Mill Street: Opening August 2024, providing tropical vibes, tiki spirits, and handcrafted cocktails. Capacity: 173.
5. Uncle Jim’s Pool Hall, 4127 Mill Street: An innovative pool hall and speakeasy with a full-service food menu. Opening in late 2024/25. Capacity: 500+.
6. The Horseshoe, 4124 Pennsylvania Ave: Opening late 2024/2025, complete with a stage, live music, DJ’s a massive dance floor, bottle service, large screens, & a full-service food menu. Capacity: 900+.
7. A full-service food truck. Opening late 2024/2025 adjacent to all these establishments and walk-up traffic.
Westport Bars KC also operates Club Lotus at 421 Westport Road—a lively club serving the Latin community—and another Bar and Rec in Waldo.
